Errol McGlashan

Errol McGlashan is one of the underground over ground live wire performance poets, creating a storm with his rhythmic poetry, accompanied with or without musicians.  Errol started performing only two years ago, as he tells us, he remembers his first ever performance in 2011, “I remember it was just like yesterday, feeling that sense of achievement, performing to a live crowd”.

He describes his poetry as banging Doctor Zeus rhymes with his slam all over it; Errol’s poetry is mainly about his life and the struggles with his love life, one of his poems “When I build it she would come” was influenced by a film, starring Kevin Costner (Field of Dreams), the poem relates to Errol building foundations in his life for the right woman to enter into it!

Not to be content with performing his works of art, Errol also runs and hosts a poetry night called Poetry Jam, which gives a platform for other poets to perform, it sees some 12-14 poets perform in one night and unlimited open mics and looks like Poetry Jam is growing from strength to strength.  Errol’s pathway, as a young man has not been an easy one but he says it has made him a stronger and more determined individual as he tries to explain in his poem “The New Me” as he now models himself on clean and healthy living, leaving his old life behind!  Errol also did a spell at Greenwich University which played a role in opening up his mind to the craft of poetry, although he did not complete his degree, what he got from it was one of his most creative pieces of poetry “One Drop” where he talks about the Stephen Lawrence case and how forensics played its part in bringing justice to for Steven Laurence and his family.  No matter how many times you watch Errol perform this poem live he has the gift of performing it like it’s the first time you have ever heard it.

Errol is enjoying the life as a performance poet and the spoken word scene and he continues to express himself to anyone and everyone who wants to listen. You could say he’s found his Utopia in spoken word and when he finds you it’s like a bolt of lightning has just hit the ground, right beside you, with a tremor of words hurtling around the atmosphere and leaving the room full of positive energy. Errol has plans on releasing an EP in the very near future and we can’t wait for its release.
